Interesting that all the males were pussies except for the demon, who then became a pussy. Then the simp boyfriend shows up, lol. But the two chicks are of course energetic, forceful and in control.

Fascinating.

"Shown in a sympathetic light."
There is occasion in which she's shown sympathetically, and I have no problem with that, nor is it related to any of my complaints.

"Incel."
Try again. XD

"Hypocrite'."
I don't think this addresses anything I said about the game.

"Your butthurt over how your 'alpha hero' totally-not-a-real-rapist Trump gets dragged is delicious and hilarious."

You don't know me, which is obvious because this is all just baseless nonsense.

"I'm especially heartened to hear you found it 'not funny' because your definition of 'joke' could probably use some work (like, not bragging about actually abusing married women and calling people slurs and taunting his actual court-proven rape victims)."

It's interesting that you seemed to have read my post, because otherwise you couldn't make this comment at all, but somehow you misread it so that you think I said "not" funny when in fact I said it was funny. My issue was with the obvious partisanship, whereby they have Trump say something fairly innocuous, but then have people react to him as if he just said something horrid, all so they can make the "joke" that "orange man bad."
There is PLENTY to make fun of Trump for, and the game even does it: It repeatedly mocks his arrogance. That's fun, that's based in reality, that makes sense. But for anyone who actually read up on the trial where the woman accused him of rape, any suggestions that he is "creepy" or a rapist are patently idiotic and obvious come from a place of someone who has inserted him in the game not really to be funny as much as to mock political opposition. As a point of comparison, I would never put a Joe Biden figure in any of my novels, despite considering him an awful president.

If you do respond again, and that response is just more angry bashing, then congratulations, you may have the last word.

So I just played it all over again—dying more times this time than when I played it before, but also noticing new upgrades and one new weapon that I didn't notice before, more on that later—and there really was only one attack that seemed unpolished and that's the chain-saw wave from the first boss. It has three frames of animation, each of which comes far apart. I wouldn't guess it's the finished product!

There are a couple other things I'd like to mention:

1. I think the drawn portraits usually look worse than the pixel art. I know that a high bar has been set, but the portraits really should be on par with the rest of the artwork, especially in a game that is, by definition, highly focused on the visuals.

2. I find that the high-powered weapons, the ones that slow you down, are much worse than the weaker weapons. I don't find the laser is any more powerful than the default shot, plus the laser slows you down, AND it doesn't have pierce. The best weapon is probably either the wave shot or the multi-shot, both of which have good coverage, good damage, an don't slow you down.
The worst shot, the one that made me restart if I got it, is the "heavy" shot, which makes you extremely slow, has an odd trajectory and limited coverage. It's annoying to use to the point that even if it took every enemy out, including bosses, with one single hit, I probably still wouldn't use it.

3. I kind of wish you had more health, or you had lives so that you didn't have to go all the way back to the beginning when you die. Or, at least, that you didn't have to listen to the cut-scene every time! I know this is, in part, a skill issue. Speaking of which,

4. I felt like there is a problem with the hit-box. Sometimes the enemy projectiles felt too close together. Technically, I discovered, I could dodge between them, but it didn't LOOK like I could, and the bullets would even touch the character as they passed. I feel like this creates a break in the player's perception of what's happening versus the physical mechanics. I felt like I had less control and understanding over any situation, even if I won.

5. The voice actors are excellent, but it sounds like they didn't get perfect direction. When she says, "If you don't fight now you'll be tried for dereliction of duty" or whatever she says, I heard it a dozen times and can't recall the specifics words, she clearly was supposed to sound mad, or at least annoyed, but instead she just sounded clinically firm. When the other girl yells back at her, again, it sounds like the voice actor wasn't told to sound furious, or precisely at what she was supposed to be furious, so the inflection comes off odd.

These are all niggles related to polish, really, with the exception of the game-play mechanic aspects, which I think really should be locked down as tight as possible. Any other issues I had (U.I. being unfinished, et cetera) could likely be chalked up to the game being a demo.

All that said, I want to mention my favorite part: The girl comes out, upside-down, from the tree, and she has to shove her boobs out of the way to aim her shot. Lol! There's so much loving attention to details in this game that I'd ALMOST take a full version as it is. . . but alas, I think the game is too difficult to justify any lack of tightness in controls. For a game like this, every aspect of the difficult should be dead on. And I'm sure you'll make it so as you work on it.

Again, fantastic work, and you've made an excited gamer here. I'll be looking forward to its release in, oh. . . two or three years? :)

I'd definitely throw five bucks your way for the full version of this! I'm a novelist and this seems like it'd be a nice little way to encourage a few more sessions per week.

Way better than it needs to be. Some of the enemies' attacks seem a little unfinished or rough around the edges; meanwhile, the pixel art animation for every girl is top-notch.
There were multiple bosses in the level, multiple little "scenes" that occurred, multiple unique enemies, multiple backgrounds with many individual animated girls doing things. Absolutely phenomenal. The replay value of this level alone is worth a couple bucks!

I hope you make the full game, but WOW is it ambitious!

A small but annoying issue.

I doubt you're taking suggestions or anything on this game at this point, given it's been over a month since you've updated it (not that that means much) but I really felt like the only thing that let the game down was the lack of any kind of personality from your oni.

I can't tell if she likes or dislikes the sex bits, she doesn't change her animations at lower health, she kind of blankly accepts everything that happens without any indications of how she's feeling. Moreover, you can't interact with her in any real way. When you feed her it's a split-second animation, and if you wait around she just walks about idly.

The game would go from a 7/10 to a 10/10 if there was just some kind of relationship progression instead of just the leveling up and fighting enemies.

Anyway, I bought, played and beat the game in about three hours or so. Great stuff!

SPOILTERS:

I played for hours and hours, but eventually all of the obvious progressive politics and your main character's lack of ethics or even the option to be ethical became annoying.
Here are some examples:
She steals from someone while also courting him and being legitimately interested in him, then loots his corpse because for some reason she can't stop thinking about paying for rent, lol! It would be funny if the game felt like it was trying to be a farce. Instead it plays like an unintentional tragedy.

Moreover, she's supposed to be "innocent," or at least that's how she's portrayed when you play a "pacifist" route (no sex, flashing, et cetera) but no matter how clean you act, the idea of "virtue" is so meaningless to the writers that they don't really know how to make her consistent with her own beliefs: in that regard, she acts like a slut, flirts with people to the point of basically lying to them, and performs every physically uncouth sexual act possible short of actual sex acts, but then murmurs under her breath about how anyone who doesn't fall for her seduction is a prick, so you end up playing as an open hypocrite.
At one point you can tell a character to not touch you, and you get the specific option to tell him either 1) I like it, 2) I don't like it, and 3) I would like it if it were anyone but you, Perv.
So I select option 2, which is a very standard moralizing point that progressives, particularly the feminist branch, love to trot out: "Don't touch me without permission," and fair game, you shouldn't touch someone without their permission, perfectly reasonable.
But then a few moments later an attractive guy touches her int he exact same way and she giggles with delight. If I were playing a character that was MEANT to be an annoying skank this would be fine, but that is obviously not the kind of character she's supposed to be, so it just comes off as a betrayal, especially since five seconds prior it had given me the option to go to bat for the guy, which I did because the story forced her to accept him along with her (because she was too cowardly to say no) and I figured, hey, if we agreed to accept him into the party then we're going to treat him fairly within that context.

I know, I know, it sounds like I'm complaining about lefty politics in a game about banging horse-cocks, but it's not about the politics, it's about inconsistent characterization, it's about likable characters and it's about obvious politics being put into the game in a way that don't even make sense.
One last example is that Donald Trump is in the game, which could be funny, and in fact is: He says all of his "I'm the best" lines and it's great, but then they have the main girl say that the guy is "giving her the creeps" after a bit of hum-drum dialogue that's not nearly as bad as tons of other stuff she has had any obvious problems with.
I would not be surprised if he makes some kind of claim to enjoy raping women and it not being a joke because someone don't understand male banter and thinks sex jokes are declarations of intent.

There's just too much of this gobbledygook pulling me out of the game and eventually I just couldn't handle it. I think it was mostly the lead character's inconsistent personality though. It'd be one thing if she started as a slut, or if there were some kind of unavoidable slut-transformation that happened at some point. Instead, she is the ultimate hypocrite, keeping her veneer of cutesy virginity and kind innocence while acting openly not just like a slut, but a cunt, constantly muttering insults beneath her breath. In other words, I grew to dislike her because, for some reason, the writers decided that her inner thoughts should be constantly disdainful of anyone around her that wasn't obsequious.

Again, to be clear, a slut in a game is fine, and in this kind of game you expect sluts, it all works, but they managed to create just the right combination of the WORST of female traits, specifically if you're doing a non-whore run. I think it works a bit better if she lets herself be pile-drived by anything with three legs, but there's still the other niggles even in that scenario.

Anyway, I gave my $1 and I respect the work put into it.

A lot*

I decided to see if I could win a level without doing anything and caused my own demise at wave 43.

I didn't understand most of the chalk board instructions, and I had to come here to figure out that you're supposed to control this with the keyboard as well as the mouse.

Mute your browser tab!

Wait, this line is odd. Why did the chicken go back down after your first line? He should have... wait, did you make him climb up and fall down to the right, and catch him as he fell above the spikes on the bottom right?

Oh, man, this took me like, thirty minutes, but I finally beat it. I suck at puzzles, but once you figure out the "trick," which is, SPOILER, that you can retrace your lines and go outside the boundaries, the concept becomes more intuitive.

Best game you've ever made. The sound effects are stellar.
